Day 19-20 Port Nelson to Grande Prairie
Awful day today, raining and miserable. The scenery is changing now very quick, it is more like Europe and Australia in some part, the road is sometime good sometime bad, the traffic too is starting to get heavy, many big trucks.
I hit something on the road and lost the spring on my side stand. I had to stop for a few minutes and ride hard to catch up. About 20 minutes down the road I saw this car similar to Rodney’s pulling in front of me, I followed for a about 1 k and the car turned on the right in a little road, I thought that was strange as the car look cleaner than Rodney’s , a few minutes later the car pull up on a drive way, I did follow and realized that was not Rodney. The driver look at me in a suspicious way, I just had time to turn around, wave, and speed away. He must have thought, who is this idiot?
We stopped for a coffee….again, in Dawson creek, made famous by the gold rush. We where lucky as we arrived there, the weather cleared up for awhile, lots of little’s street with all sort of mural, reminiscence of the old days. Very attractive town and there we saw where Alaska Hwy 1 was started early 1941.
We finally made it to Grande Prairie, Rodney had booked a flashy hotel ($120) a night, a bit to flashy for me but I didn’t complaint as we where all stuffed.
Tuesday is Paul birthday so we planed to stay the day at Grande Prairie as we are invited to a BBQ at Clint Russell’s dad place.
Paul is dreaming about big steaks, chocolate cake and maybe something else. Rodney is dreaming about big jugs of beers and something else and I’m just dreaming about something else.
For the one who don’t know Clint Russell is marring our niece, and the wedding is the reason for this trip. We are really taking the long way around. What you probably don’t know, I have to make the wedding cake (a croquet en bouche) for Saturday wedding reception. I will do that at Terri’s place (Clint sister) Then we will have to transport it to Banff. So stay tune that is going to be interesting.

Wow, not far to go now – all downhill. What a journey.
