Everest 29-03-12
Today is rest day, our agent in Brisbane said once you are at Nanche Bazaar you can rest, go to coffee shop have some cake and they have good coffee, all true, but he forgot to mention in the morning we had to aclimitaze, our guide Bebec did not forget. So off we went after some lentils…on a climb not very far but 600 meter in a couples of kilometers. The going was very hard but the reward was breathtaking. You could touch Everest and all around us was the Himalaya chain. I did make a small clip and will post it on Utube when I get a chance. We still have 5 days to climb so the view will … Continue reading

Kathmandu Flight and Le Nepal Lentils Tuesday 27th of March
Tuesday the 27th of March II knew the flight from Kathmandu to Lukla was going to be interesting but I didn’t think the captain was going to read the paper while taxi-ing, but he was, his apprentice new where he was going… We where lucky we had a seat on the left hand site near the window. In a normal flight they hand you a tower to wash your hand/face in this flight they gave us cotton wool to put in our ear…. and we certainly needed it . All the way we flew so close to the mountain and saw Everest, it look very impressive and very far away I doubt I will make it to Everest base camp. … Continue reading

Check in the hotel very nice …and going shopping for the last minutes items, toilette paper and soap etc.. … Tonight I’m going to have Dal Makhai, 3 kinds of lentils cooked in Indian spices, I thought India was next door. Daisies and Salmon 24-03-12
The new craze now in France is to put daisies, violets, primavera, it is very effective and beautiful at this time of the year when flowers from the garden are not in bloom yet. Apparently it make the lawn more healthy, talking about health, Atlantic salmon is very cheap in France about $16 a kg but beware it is different type of farmed salmon. (I like to know what it is like in Australia) The salmon that is cramped in enclosures in the ocean, the others that are not so cramp and the best one that have lots of space to swim, or course they all get the same feed but like chicken it is different methods of breeding. It … Continue reading

Training in the vineyard 23-03-12
I have been training for our trip to Nepal. Spend 3 days walking along vineyards, forests canals and rivers. Maximum altitude was 370 meters, in a week from today we will be at 5500 meters. She will be right mate, not even 20 times more. The best part of the walk was, stopping for lunch, bread with cheeses and salami not as a sandwich (sacrilege) bread in one hand and salami on the other, no tomatoes or lettuce here. A piece of tart to finish, and black coffee, not in a mug with milk just coffee. Someone always bring prune or pear liquor just to make sure we don’t feel the pain. A bit of sleep under a bridge and … Continue reading

Gardening 22-03-12
My mother 92 years strong still like to do experiments, she made me plants lettuce 2 weeks ago but as you can see I cut the top off plastic bottles and place them on top of the lettuce. She hopes to get the first lettuces from gardens in Seurre. It is still 1 degree in the morning and much too early to start planting. I don’t remember her doing anything like this before; Everyone in the street thinks she start to loose it, well we will see. I hope it doesn’t work, and we are finished with experiments. ‘Talking about food I just had fresh bread with walnut, beautiful, when I was young we use to dribble melting chocolate on … Continue reading

Gare De Lyon
This is the site I like to see. Gare de Lyon with the TGV ready to go to Burgundy. Few hours later I could see “The Clocher De Seurre” We have an expression in France, when you see your church you must be home…. I just like to mention the first drama of my trip…I’m not worry , It will be many more by the time my book “Frozen Food” is finished. When my brother Pierrot picks me up at the station in Dijon he put his car in the station car park, as you do. When it was time to leave, the gate only take credit card, of course Pierrot never had a credit card I doubt he knows … Continue reading

Singapore
Singapore What I like about airport restaurants, they give you photos of the food it help if you come from Seurre I like chopstick because you eat very little and very slowly good for digestion Don’t try to have celery in noodles (like I did ) or they will give you a lecture about what goes with what and don’t even think about asking for a good old shiraz from Qld or they will send you back to Skippy land, quick smart. I’m dreaming of C’est Bon food a good coq au vin with a glass of Pinot. Oh well I will be in my beloved village tomorrow night, digging the potatoes we cover with dirt last year for my … Continue reading
